Take me to your leader, mon amis! Ho ho! Do not fear! I am not “l’homme de lune,” no, no. It is only moi, your faithful guide to the Empire. Today we look up in the sky to gaze upon the new CNES (Centre national d’études spatiales) satellite when she orbits over my beloved ancestral home, Le Château Bust.
O! Le Château! Le Château where I spent so many happy boyhoods grabbing the butterflies, ascending the apple trees, and playing “j’accuse” with my petite friends. The summer seemed so long, so full of heat. The little babbly brook where the serving girls beat our linens on the rocks would babble so full of joy! Ah…
But my train of thoughts wanders. Where did I used to be? Oh, yes! The communicating satellite. Look! There it goes now! To whom does it speak? Impossible to know! We have no telephone line so long to reach up. Could it be even now some “E.T.” is crying “Allo! Allo, Francais! Allo!” but hearing no reply? Eh, it is to hope little green homme will leave message, no?
